The presenter, Paul Kroeger (centre), flanked by two other mushroom enthusiasts, Paul Stamets (left) and Andy MacKinnon. Paul K. and Andy have followed the story of BC magic mushrooms from the beginning. Paul Stamets is the founder of Fungi Perfecti and the author of a new book on Psilocybin mushrooms.
Join us at the District of Metchosin Council Chambers at 7:00 pm, Friday, February 7, 2025, for a slide presentation by Paul Kroeger entitled “Teonanácatl. Psilocybin-containing “Magic Mushrooms”: History and modern use in British Columbia.”
Paul’s talk will be a brief introduction to magic mushrooms, discussing their ancient use, their rediscovery in Mexico in the mid-twentieth century, and their early discovery and role in BC’s counter-culture and the legacy of that in the present day. The talk will reflect on the mixed impact of magic mushrooms on modern society, why they became prohibited, and how they may yet become valued medicines.
Tea and cookies will be available (sorry: no free samples of magic mushrooms😢).
For this event, there will not be a walk on Saturday morning.
